Pienamente soddisfatte le attese per la finale del NissanMysticXperience 2011 del numeroso pubblico presente presso il Rifugio Sitten di Gressoney - Monte Rosa.

40 erano gli intrepidi riders che hanno passato il turno di qualifica della giornata di ieri. La notte è servita a tutti per preparare la gara e ribaltare completamente i risultati finali rispetto alle qualifiche.

Il sole splendente, la perfetta visibilità e un fresco strato di neve hanno aiutato gli atleti a spingersi oltre i propri limiti. Il livello della competizione è stato molto alto per ogni disciplina e si è potuto ammirare del freeride di qualità. I partecipanti provenienti da oltre 16 paesi hanno aiutato il pubblico italiano a comprendere la spettacolarità di questo sport in continua espansione, soprattutto grazie al progetto del Freeride World Qualifier sposato da Mysticfreeride.com.

Le danze sono state aperte dalle snowboarders. Manuela Mandl (AUT) ha tracciato una linea inaspettata rispetto a come aveva interpretato la parete delle Qualifiche. L’aumento della difficoltà della discesa sembra averla stimolata a impressionare la giuria. Completano il podio Nathalie Zenklusen (SUI) e Sanne Koemann (NL).

Anne May Slinning (NOR), che si era qualificata ieri all’ultimo posto, ha ribaltato la situazione andando a disegnare una traccia solida, veloce e tecnica. Questo è bastato per decretare la vittoria. Nessun’altra è riuscita a dimostrare tale controllo. Secondo posto per Nadine Wallner (AUT) scalzata dalla vittoria di ieri. Terza posizione per l’argentina Jennifer Taylor.

Mike Aeschbach (SUI), qualificatosi al sesto posto per l’accesso in finale, non ha potuto prendere parte alla gara a causa di un leggero infortunio al ginocchio. Jérôme Frey (SUI) che ha beneficiato del posto lasciato libero, ha sfruttato al meglio l’opportunità con una run fluida e totalmente controllata, che lo ha portato sul secondo gradino del podio. Meglio di lui il francese Ludovic Guillot-Diat che con un totale di 31,2 punti, ha vinto la categoria snowboard men. Il podio è stato chiuso da Tobias- Rafael Schefranek (GER) con soli 0,1 punti da Jérôme.

La categoria ski men è quella che ha emozionato maggiormente il pubblico presente con evoluzioni degne di una tappa del tour riservato ai soli professionisti.
Difficilmente in una gara di freeride si vedono punteggi così alti da parte dei giudici. Ma Richard Amacker (SUI) ha azzeccato una run di quelle da “hall of fame”. Partito subito veloce, chiude magistralmente un frontflip, seguito da un cliff di circa 25 mt che - ci confesserà poi - non s’aspettava neanche lui. Condisce il resto della sua manche con un altro paio di cliff affrontati caparbiamente e con estrema abilità.

Nessuno dei 12 riders scesi dopo di lui sono riusciti a fare meglio. Per la seconda volta, il finlandese Joonas Karhumaa conquista il secondo gradino del podio al NissanMysticXperience. Magistrale il 360° sul cliff iniziale e il resto della parete percorsa con velocità e cattiveria, soprattutto considerando che è un telemarker.
Terzo gradino per lo svizzero Renaud Langel.

Dopo di loro, i giudici hanno avuto un gran da fare per decretare oggettivamente le posizioni in classifica. Basti pensare che in meno di 1,5 punti si concentrano ben 7 riders tra cui l’italiano Raffaele Cusini, sesto classificato, a solo 0,1 punti dai 5 premiati.

A satisfied corniche of public assisted at Sitten Hut in Gressoney Monte Rosa to the Finals of NissanMysticXperience 2011.

Overnight the 40 riders that qualified yesterday prepared the race to shake the results. A bluebird sky day and the fresh powder has convinced the athletes to push beyond their limits. The competition level has been very high to create an high quality freeride event.

More than 16 countries were represented showing to the Italian public a sport expanding thanks to the Freeride World Qualifier project, of which Mysticfreeride.com is the ambassador.

Snowboarders were the first on course and Manuela Mandl (AUT) stepped up from the quali ride to a solid line. The increased challenge looks like having stimulated her to impress the jury that recognized the first spot. Podium completed by Nathalie Zenklusen (SUI) and Sanne Koemann (NL). A great performance from the skier Anne May Slinning (NOR), that completely twisted the results from the first day of the event. A fast and controlled line was prized with the victory. No one else was able to show such a control and creativity. Second place for Nadine Wallner (AUT) falling from the hot spot of yesterday. Third was Jennifer Taylor from Argentina.

Mike Aeschbach (SUI), 6th in the Qualification Run could not get to the Finals due to a light injury to the knee. Jérôme Frey (SUI) took his place optimizing his run to gain the second spot on the podium. Better than him only the French Ludovic Guillot-Diat with a total of 31,2 points, winning the snowboard men category of the event. Third place for Tobias- Rafael Schefranek (GER) with a tight 0,1 points from Jérôme.

Ski men followed and literally blew the mind of the spectators with a level usually seen only at professional venues. It’s difficult to witness such an high points score from a freeride jury. Richard Amacker (SUI)’s run should get a visible spot in the “hall of fame” of Freeride. Starting with a perfectly stomped massive frontflip, followed by a huge cliff of 25 mt he completed his run with speed and further cliffs to secure the crown of the winner. He confessed later that it has been the best run of his life.

No one of the following 12 riders could do better. Joonas Karhumaa (FIN) get for the second time on the second spot of the NissanMysticXperience podium. Fantastic the 360° on the starting cliff, considering that he is a telemarker!

Third the swiss Renaud Langel.

Judges had to review deeply the following positions to set an objective results into the ranking. 7 riders are concentrated in only 1,5 points. Among them the italian Raffaele Cusini loose the prize giving only for 0,1 points scoring 6th.
